Flexibility: High

What’s What: Beat the quarantine blues and support our troops by sewing masks for Soldiers’ Angels.

Amava Take: Soldiers’ Angels is working diligently to create volunteer opportunities to fit the new landscape of this current Coronavirus pandemic. They understand the difficulties of being stuck at home and limiting your contact with others. However, these new challenges don’t mean you can’t still volunteer! Soldiers’ Angels has been a virtual-focused volunteer organization for the past 17 years, so they know how to provide support to service members and veterans through this crisis and beyond. Have a sewing machine and basic sewing skills? Urgent help is needed to help supply VA Hospitals with masks.

Question and Answers:

What is an “Angel” and do I have to be one to sew masks?

No! You do not need to be a registered angel in order to participate in this opportunity.  However, if you’re interested in providing support beyond this current emergency need, a Soldiers’ Angel “Angel” volunteer works in every department of the organization. Angels can work in the corporate office, provide support at one of the many Veteran Mobile Food Distributions in cities across the country (Atlanta, Georgia; Charleston, South Carolina; Denver, Colorado; Detroit, Michigan; Orlando, Florida; San Antonio, Texas) or assist Soldiers’ Angels at any one of the many VA Medical Centers or clinics. There are many ways to get involved and we hope you’ll consider signing up for the future. Our Veterans deserve support now and always.

Where do I send the masks?

Soldiers’ Angels is now accepting donations of masks from anyone, regardless if you are registered as an Angel or not. If you are not currently an Angel, please send your completed masks to Soldiers’ Angels at: Soldiers’ Angels 2895 NE Loop 410, Suite 107 San Antonio, Texas 78218. If you are a Team Angel, please reach out to your Team Leader before sending your masks.

Is there a template to follow?

Here’s a video providing instructions for the preferred type of mask that includes a pocket for the insertion of a filter.

Are there other virtual opportunities to help Soldiers’ Angels?
