Social Engagement: High
What’s What: Do you love nature or animals? Have we got an opportunity for you!
Amava Take: For 36 years, FriendshipWorks has worked to reduce social isolation in Greater Boston by matching volunteers to older adults in need of assistance. They have two amazing programs, Relaxing Through the Arts and PetPals that need volunteer letter writers to create nature and animal themed cards. The cards will be distributed to residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities that have not allowed in-person visitors since March. But wait, there’s more. Rather than just create cards, you can put on your organizer hat and get your own group of friends and family to help. Collect ‘em up and send them in to Friendshipworks! Voila! You brighten up an elder’s day, help alleviate isolation and collaborate meaningfully with your people!
Questions and Answers:
How do I get started?
Get in touch with Carolina Martinez at firstname.lastname@example.org. Carolina will tell you about next steps! Put “Cards about Nature and Animals” in the subject line.
Are there requirements for the cards?
The cards can be store-bought or homemade, and can include homemade artwork, collages, pictures, poems, or messages along one of two themes: nature or animals. Messages such as “Dear Friend, we are thinking of you,” “Hope you are well” or “You are in our thoughts” work well, but cardmakers can speak from the heart too!
Special Requirements: You may need to provide postage.
