What’s What:
Want to go back to an alternative 1940s universe and see what happens? You came to the right place.
Amava Take:
Philip Roth's great 2004 novel "The Plot Against America" begins in an alternate 1940s universe. It's a world where Charles Lindbergh, who is—and really was—sympathetic to the Nazi regime, defeats FDR for the presidency, and begins instituting anti-Jewish measures in the United States. Roth clearly meant the novel to be a commentary on the experience of African Americans during the early 2000s, as well as a homage to figures like Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt.
