Social Engagement: High
What’s What: If you’ve wanted to chase that little white ball around anyway, you can be part of a team and forget about paying to play!
Amava Take: Golf is a serious game. It has its own TV channel. If you’re part of the golf tribe, we don’t need to tell you about its many fascinations. But what you may not know is that golf jobs are plentiful! If you’re one of those irritatingly good golfers (what’s your secret, by the way?), you may be able to give lessons. Even if you aren’t, there are all kinds of positions at golf courses, both municipal and private. Um, never leave a birdie putt short? May you hit them long and straight and not too often!
From the Front Lines:
What kinds of candidates are you looking for to fill these jobs?
People who love the game and understand others who feel the same way.
Any tips for first-timers to make it a productive and fulfilling experience?
Learn names! It makes a difference!
What’s a typical daily schedule like?
Tee times rule the schedule, but if you work early you probably won’t work late!
From the Trenches:
What’s the most satisfying part of the job?
Being around so many people who share my love of the game!
How would you describe the hard parts?
People take their games seriously, so there can be tense moments!
What’s your dream course and have you been there?
Cape Kidnappers in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, and not yet!
Special Requirements: Varies by course and club.
Finding a Position: Believe it or not, there is a dedicated golf jobs site, you didn’t doubt that, did you? If you play anyway, you know some people and some places to ask, so definitely check into that as well. There are also jobs in golf management to consider if you’re qualified. Companies that own golf courses and resorts also advertise jobs.
