Flexibility: High

Social Engagement: High

What’s What: Everybody needs someone in their corner. If you’ve got the life experience and training, you can be a valuable asset to people doing big things.

Amava Take: If you’ve got experience in the corporate world and you want to help others succeed, Executive Coaching could be a great way to be effective. Many companies are providing coaches for their employees (increasingly not only in the C-suite), because they find that investing in their people in this way is good for the company’s bottom line. If you want to stay sharp and involved, Executive Coaching could be the avenue you’ve been looking for.

From the Front Lines:

What kinds of candidates are you looking for to fill these jobs?

We look for people who have success stories and experience managing others.

Any tips for first-timers to make it a productive and fulfilling experience?

Show an interest in the people you’re coaching. The experience works best when it is a real exchange.

What’s a typical daily schedule like?

The schedule varies and generally coaches and their clients arrange what works best.

From the Trenches:

What’s the most satisfying part of the job?

It’s so fun to help someone connect with their goals and potential!

How would you describe the hard parts?

Businesses move so fast and last-minute schedule changes are pretty common.

What story do you most often tell your clients?

That time I was trying to close a deal over lunch and nearly choked at the table. A woman from the “other side” jumped up to help me. It just reminded us all that we’re humans trying to do our best.

Special Requirements: Experience is the main thing here. If you have years of corporate experience and a proven track record managing other people, that speaks for itself. The industry is currently unregulated, but there are Executive Coach certification programs both online and at various schools.

Finding a Position: You can tap into your network, or look into the many organizations that organize, educate and deploy Executive Coaches. Check into job listings for companies near you as well.
