Number one on our bucket list is helping you fill yours. Living long is part of the goal, of course, but we believe it is even more important to live well. To us, a bucket list is more than a collection of thrilling experiences, it’s all the elements you put together to build an active, engaged life.

Here are a few ways you can think bigger and better:

Consider doing something you thought you’d never do. Part of making a bucket list is doing things you have dreamed about doing. You’ve been thinking about it a long time–why not be that person who actually drives race cars  or goes on an archaeological dig.

Experience the World. Travel isn’t only for big spenders and you don’t necessarily need to go abroad. There are traveling jobs like housesitting and teaching English abroad looking for people like you to fill them.

Make a little extra money doing something completely new. Increasingly, people are realizing the value of continuing to work and many are trying new things. There are plenty of flex jobs that can keep you active, connected and paid without cutting into your adventure time too much. Love cooking? Maybe try your hand at catering! You could even open your own business if you enjoy the experience.

Test yourself. With commitments to family, friends and work, make sure you carve out time for yourself. Maybe it’s time to let someone else be the emergency contact? Meanwhile, you can be Walking the Camino de Santiago from France through Spain to the Atlantic…or something.

Pay it forward in your community. As the Dalai Lama said, “If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” Kids need mentors, teams need coaches, nonprofits need board members. There are so many ways to help out in your community or the bigger world. Being part of the solution is way more than a mindfulness blogger’s Instagram post.

Discuss your bucket list with others. Share your ideas and inspirations with others. It’s a great way to forge new friendships and strengthen existing relationships. Studies show that connection and engagement are key to longevity and that isolation can be downright dangerous. So, go get coffee and chat up some people face-to-face.
