Getting to Know Your Guide

We asked our Guides some fun questions to help you get to know them a bit better.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Surviving Army boot camp when I enlisted at 27 years old.

What is your most treasured possession?

I have two. A statue of “The Teacher” my mother gave me when I completed my doctorate. Her students gave it to her and she passed it down to me. I also have day lilies and irises that were in my father’s garden. I take a clump of them every time I move and they always bloom wherever I go.

What is your favorite journey?

When I worked for World Wildlife Fund, I had the privilege of traveling to Kenya to train African journalists on writing about conservation issues. After a week of work, I was able to spend another week on safari.

Which talent would you most like to have?

The ability to draw and paint. I took lessons for years but never could get the hang of it.

What have you always wanted to try?

Sailing.

What do you do for fun? (or to relax)

I love being outdoors—biking, hiking, walking.
