Getting to Know Your Guide
We asked our Guides some fun questions to help you get to know them a bit better.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
As cliche as it sounds, raising two incredible men gives a sense of accomplishment like nothing else.
What is your most treasured possession?
What is your favorite journey?
Any hike that takes me to the top of a mountain always qualifies as a favorite journey.
What is your greatest fear?
Spiders! A brown recluse bit me, and I've had no love of the eight-legged species ever since.
Which talent would you most like to have?
I'd say singing or speaking a foreign language. I've always had a slight hearing impairment that keeps me from recognizing pitch changes or language inflections. Not that it's kept me from trying, but others are very patient with my attempts.
Where would you like to live?
I've been very fortunate to live in every US time zone, minus Hawaii. So, I do have a spirit for shaking things up. Currently, with my husband, we are planning on living in New Zealand for six months after he retires in a few years.
What do you most value in your friends?
Honestly and inquisitiveness, hands down! A friend willing to ask, "Are you OK?" and genuinely wants to know the answer is what I value most. Knowing I can return that favor to them is also a treasured gift.
What have you always wanted to try?
I've traveled extensively during my life with companions, but I'd like to travel solo or take a volunteer-intensive vacation.
What do you do for fun? (or to relax)
Recently I started a daily practice of painting or drawing in a flower journal. This artsy endeavor encourages me to let go of striving for something perfect and instead to enjoy the process no matter how messy.
What is your favorite dessert?
I wait all year for fresh peaches to grill and then drizzled with aged balsamic vinegar. It's a bonus that I live where peaches are abundant, and I can pluck them from the tree!
