What is Amava?
Amava is a member-centric organization dedicated to keeping people active and socially engaged — proven keys to fulfillment and longevity. We offer a combination of opportunities (Flexible Jobs, Volunteer Gigs, Unique Experiences) and services for people who may be thinking about what’s next.
Who is Amava for?
Amava was originally intended for “post-career professionals” and “empty-nesters” thinking about what’s next, but we’re not focused on any of those labels. Anyone looking for opportunities, connections, or services is welcome to join.
Is Amava in my state or region?
Amava is an online platform. We are where you are. In all 50 states and several countries. For example, our highlighted work ideas (paid and volunteer) feature listings all over the place (with search by zip code) so readers can find something wherever they live – in the United States or another country.
How much does Amava cost?
Membership is free. You can also subscribe to the Amava Post Newsletter for free.
How do I cancel my Membership?
To cancel your Amava Membership, please contact Member Services at email@example.com.
Why do you ask for my zip code?
We require zip code to provide you with information on opportunities, events and connections in your area. We do not ask for your address.
What do these words mean: Discover Your Next, Spotlight, Flexible Jobs, Volunteer Gigs and Unique Experiences?
Glad you asked! Here’s a mini-glossary:
Discover Your Next – Our trademark phrase. It’s open-ended. It connotes possibility. “Next” is consciously a noun here. It’s the sentence we want to help our Members finish.
Spotlight – Our Spotlights are deeply researched, close looks at what it is actually like to do something, be it a Flexible Job, a Volunteer Gig or a Unique Experience. Each Spotlight is rated for flexibility and level of social engagement, and each explains special requirements, qualifications and ways to find opportunities as well as other useful information.
Flexible Jobs – Flexible job attributes may include the ability to set hours, share responsibilities with colleagues or throttle commitment level up or down. The typical kinds of flex jobs that candidates look for feature part-time work, fluid or off-hour schedules and freelance, temporary or contract positions.
Volunteer Gigs – These are still flexible jobs. They just don’t happen to include pay, but they can be just as effective a way to stay active and socially engaged.
Unique Experiences – Anything out of the ordinary or bucket-listy. Some of these are free (like foraging) and some require travel and/or spending money (like restoring frescoes in Italy).
What is the Amava Post?
Newsletters, interviews, conversations, articles, blogs and more to inspire, engage, inform and entertain you. Starting college, getting married and having a child are well-defined life events. However, we’ve found there’s not much of a story around retirement, leaving a full-time career, or transitioning into a “portfolio life.” Enter the Amava Post.
How do I sign up for The Amava Post?
Provide your email address at the top right of any page to subscribe. You do not need to be an Amava Member, create a My Amava profile or have an account to subscribe to the Amava Post. It’s free and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Can I send someone Amava Post articles who isn’t part of Amava?
Of course you can! Please share interesting newsletters and opportunities with anyone who might enjoy them.
What is My Amava?
My Amava is your own personal dashboard where you can create your profile, read and create listings, check out content and more.
Where do you get those snazzy photos?
Amava uses Unsplash for images in our Spotlights and Posts content: Beautiful, free images gifted by the world’s most generous community of photographers. Better than any royalty free or stock photo.
How do I contact Amava?

Is my personal information kept private?
Is Amava a political organization?
No. Amava is a place for people to discover ways to earn, learn, give back and more in socially engaging ways. Learning can mean many things, of course, but there are other places to go to learn about elections, politics and such. Amava is nonpartisan.
