FAQs

What is Amava?

Amava is dedicated to helping people stay active and socially engaged — proven keys to fulfillment and longevity. We offer a combination of opportunities to connect, learn, give back and earn.

Who is Amava for?

Amava was originally intended for “post-career professionals” and  “empty-nesters” thinking about what’s next, but we’re not focused on any of those labels. Anyone looking for opportunities, connections, or services is welcome to join.

What kinds of opportunities and connections does Amava offer?

Amava features Amava Circles, vibrant live discussions with other members around topics of shared interest led by an Amava Guide. In addition, Amava highlights selected volunteer opportunities, flexible jobs, ways to learn and other often unique experiences that are tailored to our community.

Is Amava in my state or region?

Amava is an online platform with members from all 50 states and many countries. We are where you are.

How much does Amava cost?

Membership is free as is our newsletter and a wide array of opportunities, including our Virtual Volunteers Program. Amava Circles cost a certain number of credits depending upon the number of sessions you choose to attend. Some Circles allow drop-ins and others require you to sign up for the entire series. Each credit is the equivalent of $10 and bundle pricing is available. Revenue from Amava Circles helps support the free Amava Virtual Volunteer Program, which connects volunteers with opportunities to give back at leading nonprofit organizations.

Can I work for Amava?

You can check our jobs page for openings and apply or you can look into being a Guest Contributor if you’re interested. Write to editor@amava.com and let us know what you’re thinking.

How do I cancel my Membership?

To cancel your Amava Membership, please contact Member Services at member-services@amava.com.

Why do you ask for my zip code?

We require your zip code to provide you with information on opportunities, events and connections in your area. We do not ask for your address.

What do these capitalized phrases mean: Discover Your Next, Amava Circles, Ways to Learn, Amava Virtual Volunteers Program, Spotlight, Flexible Jobs, Volunteer Gigs and Unique Experiences?

Glad you asked! Here’s a mini-glossary:

Discover Your Next – Our trademark phrase. It’s open-ended. It connotes possibility. “Next” is consciously a noun here. It’s the sentence we want to help our Members finish.

Amava Circles – Vibrant live discussions with other Amava community members around topics of shared interest led by an Amava Guide.

Ways to Learn – Curated online classes to help you add a new skill, pursue a hobby or try something you always wanted to learn.

Amava Virtual Volunteers ProgramA program created to bring Amava members safe opportunities to volunteer with leading charitable organizations during the pandemic.

Spotlight – Our Spotlights are deeply researched, close looks at what it is actually like to do something, be it a Flexible Job, a Volunteer Gig or a Unique Experience. Each Spotlight is rated for flexibility and level of social engagement, and each explains special requirements, qualifications and ways to find opportunities as well as other useful information.

Flexible Jobs –  Flexible job attributes may include the ability to set hours, share responsibilities with colleagues or throttle commitment level up or down. The typical kinds of flex jobs that candidates look for feature part-time work, fluid or off-hour schedules and freelance, temporary or contract positions.

Volunteer Gigs – These are still flexible jobs. They just don’t happen to include pay, but they can be just as effective a way to stay active and socially engaged.

Unique Experiences – Anything out of the ordinary or bucket-listy. Some of these are free (like foraging) and some require travel and/or spending money (like restoring frescoes in Italy).

What is the Amava Post?

Newsletters, interviews, conversations, articles, blogs and more to inspire, engage, inform and entertain you. Starting college, getting married and having a child are well-defined life events.  However, we’ve found there’s not much of a story around retirement, leaving a full-time career, or transitioning into a “portfolio life.” Enter the Amava Post. To sign up just provide your email address at the top right of any page. It’s free and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Can I send someone Amava Post articles who isn’t part of Amava?

Of course you can! Please share interesting newsletters and opportunities with anyone who might enjoy them.

What is My Amava?

My Amava is your own personal dashboard where you can create your profile, read and send messages, check out content and connect with other Members.

Where do you get those snazzy photos?

Amava uses Unsplash for images in our Spotlights and Posts content: Beautiful, free images gifted by the world’s most generous community of photographers. Better than any royalty free or stock photo.

What is a My Amava profile?

Your Amava Profile contains basic information about you that you can edit at any time. It provides other Members with a bit of your background so they know who you are when you connect. New interactive features are in the works.

I signed up but never received any information. What do I do?

First, check your Spam folder. If that doesn’t solve the problem write to us at member-services@amava.com and we’ll figure it out.

How do I contact Amava?

For general feedback or questions, please click on “Contact Us” in the footer or send an email to support@amava.com.

Is my personal information kept private?

You own and control your personal information on Amava and can provide as much (or little) detail as you like. We will not sell your personal information to third parties. If you are interested in the details, please view our Privacy Policy.

Is Amava a political organization?

No. Amava is a place for people to discover ways to connect, learn, earn, give back and more in socially engaging ways. Learning can mean many things, of course, but there are other places to go to learn about elections, politics and such. Amava is nonpartisan.
